All three art-making activities, particularly doodling, activated the reward pathways in the brain. The researchers concluded that “art making could be a way to regulate mood [and] addictive behaviors.”
Doodling simply is drawing or making random and spontaneous marks on paper. There is no set pattern or shape or even medium for doodling. One can just make anything, whether it makes any form or not is irrelevant. Kids generally make doodles on paper with a pencil, pen, or crayon.
Doodling fosters healthy brain development, the ability to retain information and future creativity, yet it can be overlooked and brushed off as insignificant. We often actively discourage children from doing it, the idea being, we should give more time to ‘meaningful’ learning.

Doodling is more than just a way to stop yourself from daydreaming and keeping your brain from falling asleep. The act of drawing is creative in itself and can help you come up with ideas to solve whatever problems you might be stuck on.
