Organizing a food drive, campaigning for a class to be offered, seeking out a summer class, applying for a part-time job, spotting a need and doing the work to fill it—they pursue—or create—their own opportunities. They aren’t content to wait for a parent or someone else to hand it to them.
Schools calculate a student’s class rank by taking their GPA and assessing it in relation to individuals from the same graduating class. If your grade has 100 students, and your GPA is better than 90 of them, then you are ranked number 10 and you’re in the top 10 percent of your graduating class.
Usually, a GPA of 3.0 – 3.5 is considered good enough at many high schools, colleges, and universities. Top academic institutions usually require GPAs higher than 3.5.

California students may drop out legally once they turn 18. Students who are 16 or 17 may also leave school, but only if they: have their parents’ permission, and. pass the California High School Proficiency Exam, which leads to a certificate that’s equivalent to a diploma (more on that below).
Seven of the states (Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Maine, New Mexico, and Oklahoma) allow students to drop out of school before age 17 or 18 with their parents’ consent.

Make a goal to say at least one thing every class period. Make a comment, ask a question, or volunteer to read a passage from the day’s reading. Consistent participation familiarizes professors with your voice and face, and shows them that you take their class seriously.
A Written Request
Identify the student and the grade level you wish the student to skip. State your reasons for making the request. Make your request anytime, but it may be best to submit it prior to the beginning of the school year so that a decision can be made before school starts.
Many high schools continue to use the “traditional” schedule with six or seven periods a day (sometimes eight), each lasting from 45 and 60 minutes. Especially during the recent economic downturn, some schools/districts have even returned to a traditional 6 period bell schedule after experimenting with other options.

At most high schools, this means that the highest GPA you can get is a 5.0. A 4.5 GPA indicates that you’re in very good shape for college. You’re most likely in high level classes earning As and high Bs. 99.68% of schools have an average GPA below a 4.5.
Overall, a 3.5 GPA is above the average of 3.38. It equates to about an A- average, but is slightly lower (3.67 is an A-). It’s not the best GPA, and it doesn’t make you competitive for the very best schools, but it’s still above average, and you should still be competitive for many schools.

Public Schools
Every state has a public school system to provide free education to every child. Public schools are government-run schools regulated by federal, state and local law. However, with a free education often come numerous legal issues that parents should consider when sending their children to public schools.
If you want to attend a more competitive college, you should aim to have a class rank that puts you in the top 25% of your class, or the 75th or higher percentile. For Ivy League and other top tier schools, a class rank in the top 10% or 5% is a good goal to aim for.
A 3.7 GPA is a very good GPA, especially if your school uses an unweighted scale. This means that you’ve been earning mostly A-s in all of your classes. If you’ve been taking high level classes and earning a 3.7 unweighted GPA, you’re in great shape and can expect to be accepted to many selective colleges.
Unweighted 4.0 GPA Scale
It’s found in high schools and colleges alike and is very straightforward. Essentially, the highest GPA you can earn is a 4.0, which indicates an A average in all of your classes. A 3.0 would indicate a B average, a 2.0 a C average, a 1.0 a D, and a 0.0 an F.
There is a direct correlation with a lack of high school education and incarceration. One in ten male dropouts between the ages of 16 to 24 are either in prison or in juvenile detention.
Can I lie about having a high school diploma? Well, of course, they can fire you for lying on your application and/or for not having a high school diploma. Your question is not a legal one, it is a personal one. You can tell them that you lied, etc., the choice is yours to make.
A university education is far from the only path to success — just ask the nearly 30% of living billionaires who never got even a bachelor’s degree.
