Topic sentence, detail sentences, and a closing sentence are the main elements of a good paragraph, and each one forms a different “piece” of the hamburger.
The five-paragraph essay consists of three simple steps: the introduction, or what you are going to talk about in your essay; the body paragraphs, or the three main points in small, neat, and separate paragraphs; and the conclusion, or repeating what you said at the beginning and middle of your essay.
There are three parts to an introduction: the opening statement, the supporting sentences, and the introductory topic sentence.

A paragraph is a brief piece of writing that’s around seven to ten sentences long. It has a topic sentence and supporting sentences that all relate closely to the topic sentence. The paragraph form refers to its overall structure, which is a group of sentences focusing on a single topic.
There are four essential elements that an effective paragraph should consistently contain: unity, coherence, a topic sentence, and sufficient development. In order for a paragraph to maintain a sense of unity, the paragraph must focus solely on a single idea, point, or argument that is being discussed.
Paragraphs contain three main parts: a topic sentence, supporting sentences and a concluding sentence. A topic sentence contains the topic and an opinion, or controlling idea. It is often, but not always, the first sentence of the paragraph.
How long is a paragraph in middle school? Various educators teach rules governing the length of paragraphs. They may say that a paragraph should be 100 to 200 words long, or be no more than five or six sentences.
Our 5th graders must write at least 40 words in each paragraph (as always, they can always write more). In the 6th grade, 80 words are required. At 7th grade, students must write 100 words, and at 8th grade it is 125 words. There are also sentence requirements.
In academic writing, most paragraphs include at least three sentences, though rarely more than ten. So, how many paragraphs are enough, and how many are too many? For historical writing, there should be between four and six paragraphs in a two-page paper, or six and twelve in a five-page essay.
