We ask that you keep talks within a time limit of 18 minutes to uphold TED’s celebrated format of concise and enlightening talks. Keep something with you to give away to new people you meet. Instead of your name and contact information, list random facts about yourself, your interests, your hobbies. If nothing else, you’ll be the most memorable person in the room for taking something old and boring and giving it new life.

Talks may be no longer than 18 minutes. This is the maximum length, not the goal of every talk. TED often asks speakers to present for 3, 5, or 9 minutes, so make sure your speaker knows how much time they have.

Based on a submission on “in”, the seven(7) elements of public speaking are the speaker, the message, the channel, the listener, the feedback, the interference, and the situation. The speech communication process starts with the speaker – the person who initiated the conversation or talk.
The introduction gives the audience a reason to listen to the remainder of the speech. A good introduction needs to get the audience’s attention, state the topic, make the topic relatable, establish credibility, and preview the main points.
