Introduced to the public in 1980, the Post-it Note has become one of the Minnesota-based 3M Company’s most successful products. In 1968, Spencer Silver, a scientist at 3M’s headquarters in Maplewood, was working to create a strong adhesive.Nov 7, 2016
Around 1750, the first glue or adhesive patent was issued in Britain. The glue was made from fish. Patents were then rapidly issued for adhesives using natural rubber, animal bones, fish, starch, milk protein or casein.

Both are made by an adhesive company, 3M, but the sticky stuff on Post-it notes was actually a mistake. In the late 1960s, a 3M chemist named Spencer Silver was trying to make a stronger, stickier glue when he created Post-it’s wan, weak adhesive.

The idea for the Post-it note was conceived in 1974 by Arthur Fry as a way of holding bookmarks in his hymnal while singing in the church choir. He was aware of an adhesive accidentally developed in 1968 by fellow 3M employee Spencer Silver.

Kudrow didn’t really invent Post-it notes, but she most certainly claimed to that one time. The big running joke from her 90s classic, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion has the girls (Kudrow played Michele) deciding that when they roll into their reunion, they’re going to claim that they invited the Post-it.
Spencer Silver
They became one of the most ubiquitous office products ever conceived. Spencer Silver, a research chemist at 3M who inadvertently created the not-too-sticky adhesive that allows Post-it Notes to be removed from surfaces as easily as they adhere to them, died on May 8 at his home in St. Paul, Minn. He was 80.May 14, 2021

The 3M factory that sits just a few miles outside of town is responsible for supplying most of the world with the sticky notes we use every day. “Most people are surprised number 1 that it’s made in the United States, and number 2 that it’s made in Kentucky,” 3M Quality Manager Paul Fischer explained.
Velcro (1955)
In 1955, after taking his dog for a walk in the woods, Swiss electrical engineer George De Mestral found that burrs from the burdock plant had clung to his clothes – as well as to his dog’s fur. … And so Velcro – a combination of ‘velvet’ and ‘crochet’ – was invented.
Magic Sticky Notes stick using static and leave no marks on any surface, including walls, doors and windows. They stay firmly in place until removed unlike other paper self adhesive notes. Magic Sticky Notes can also be used as an alternative to tape or tack.
